Three students from Delaware State University have been awarded $8,000 scholarships to support their pursuit of a degree in tourism and hospitality.

Celine Trombi of Wilmington, Hannah Weiss of Townsend and Kaniyah Williams Bailey of Washington, D.C. are the three recipients of the 2024 Destinations International Foundation Historically Black Colleges and University Hospitality Scholarship s.

They were awarded to only nine students across the country.

The money will help cover tuition for the upcoming 2024-25 school year.

Destinations International is the world’s leading association representing destination organizations and convention and visitors bureaus.

The Greater Wilmington Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Delaware Hotel and Lodging Association contributed $3,000 together to enable the students to attend the annual Destinations International Annual Convention earlier this summer in Tampa, Florida and accept their scholarships.

“This scholarship fund serves a very important purpose, supporting diversity, equity and inclusion in our tourism industry,” said Bill Sullivan, chairman of the bureau’s board of directors and member of the hotel and lodging association. “It was an honor to ensure these three students were able to go to the national convention and be recognized.”
