New and returning Blue Hens will be flooding into Newark this week for another year at the University of Delaware.

The university said there are more than 4,200 first-time students moving in less than a week from the first day of classes.

Expect congestion in the city, specifically around Academy Street. On Friday, Aug. 23, and Saturday Aug. 24, Haines and Courtney streets will be one-way. On Sunday, Aug. 25, more traffic than usual is expected on most streets around campus and downtown Newark with the move-in of upperclassmen.

The city of Newark said Newark police and UD police will be present to direct traffic.

Here is what you need to know if you are starting or continuing your Blue Hen tenure this week.

When is UD Move-in Day 2024?

First-year and freshmen living in campus housing should have an appointment for Friday, Aug. 23, or Saturday, Aug. 24. Check-in times are staggered between 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

If approved for early check-in, go to campus on Wednesday, Aug. 21, between 5 and 7 p.m. and go to your assigned residence hall after picking up your ID card.

If you are a returning sophomore, junior, senior or an incoming transfer, your move-in day is on Sunday, Aug. 25, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Where do students go when they arrive?

If you are a first-year student or a freshman checking in on Friday or Saturday, first go to the Bob Carpenter Center, where keys and maps will be given out. Then, go to your assigned residence hall and unload.

Returning students and incoming transfers moving in on Sunday should go right to their residence halls.

If you are checking in early, go right to your residence hall.
