New market offering breakfast and barbecue joining pizzeria in Middletown-area community

A new market in Middletown serving breakfast and barbecue is coming soon to the Town of Whitehall, a growing collection of seven villages and hamlets on the banks of the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal near the Roth Bridge.

Peach Grove Market, owned and operated by chef Chris Galbraith, will be a contemporary provisions market on Mapleton Avenue. The opening is planned for this spring.

It will be located adjacent to the coming-soon La Pizzeria Metro, a second branch of the Wilmington restaurant, now under construction.

The first La Pizzeria location, run by Dan Tumolo, is at 3101 Miller Road Station off Miller Road next to Wilmington Brew Works. It has been operating since 2019 and is an offspring of Café Riviera, the family pizzeria and restaurant inside the Concord Mall that his parents, Michael J. and Mindy Tumolo, have owned since 1981.

Brian DiSabatino, co-founder of the Town of Whitehall, said the lease for the market, which also will offer catering, was signed recently.

Peach Grove will offer locally roasted coffee and made-to-order options such as hashbrowns; Texas or French toast; and lunch and dinner foods such as smoked brisket, pulled pork, fried chicken and catfish; and "country-inspired" cold sides.

"After Hours in the Grove," another component of the business, is set to launch this summer. It will offer an exclusive multicourse tasting menu with beverage pairings.

Galbraith, a graduate of the New England Culinary Institute, has worked in Philadelphia, Vermont, Boston, Martha’s Vineyard, New Jersey and New York City.

"I want Peach Grove to reflect the sense of community I experienced growing up in New Jersey, where every neighborhood had its own corner store," he said. "I hope to bring that same community-driven spirit to Whitehall."
