President Joe Biden said he remains “proud” of his son Hunter Biden following his conviction on three felony gun charges.

The president released a statement on Tuesday in support of his son and echoing a previous vow to stay clear of the case. A Delaware jury found Hunter Biden guilty on all three counts he was facing. Prosecutors accused the president’s son of lying about a drug addiction while obtaining a firearm in 2018.

“As I said last week, I am the President, but I am also a Dad. Jill and I love our son, and we are so proud of the man he is today. So many families who have had loved ones battle addiction understand the feeling of pride seeing someone you love come out the other side and be so strong and resilient in recovery,” the president said. “As I also said last week, I will accept the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal.”

The president said he and the first lady will continue to offer support to their son.

“Jill and I will always be there for Hunter and the rest of our family with love and support. Nothing will ever change that,” he wrote.

First Lady Jill Biden attended Hunter Biden’s trial and was present on Tuesday. In an interview last week, the president vowed there would be no pardon offered to his son should he be found guilty.

In his own statement following the guilty verdict, Hunter Biden said he was more “grateful” for the support from his family than “disappointed” by the jury’s decision. His attorney, Abbe Lowell , did not confirm there would be an appeal, but said the team will continue to pursue “legal challenges” available.
