    21st Century Community Learning Center grants to support Delaware learning centers

    Seven sites will benefit from 21st Century Community Learning Center grants to establish or expand community learning centers that provide students with enrichment opportunities when school is not in session.

    Grant awardees are:

    • Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware Sussex ($320,000)
    • Capital School District, Dover High School ($320,000)
    • Capital School District, Dover Middle School ($320,000)
    • Capital School District, East Dover Elementary School ($320,000)
    • Capital School District, South Dover Elementary School ($320,000)
    • Thomas Edison Charter School ($320,000)
    • University of Delaware 4H, Shue-Medill Middle School ($240,000)

    The competitive grant application was open to local school systems, interagency, interdepartmental, community and faith-based or other private or public organizations, or a consortium of two or more of the proposing to provide services to students, and families of students, who primarily attend schools eligible for Title I schoolwide programs or schools that serve a high percentage of students from low-income families.

    21st Century Community Learning Center centers can be in elementary or secondary schools or other similarly accessible community facilities. 21st Century Community Learning Center must provide a range of high-quality services to support student learning and development. These services may include tutoring, mentoring, homework help, academic enrichment, music, arts, sports, cultural activities, and community service opportunities.

    Also, 21st Century Community Learning Center centers must serve the families of participating students through family literacy and engagement programs.
