Man charged with Attempted Murder in Mingo County

MINGO COUNTY, WV (WVNS) — A man was charged with Attempted Murder after reports of a stabbing in Mingo County.

25-year-old Aaron Mahon, of Delbarton, was charged with Attempted Murder after cutting a person’s neck with a knife.

A trooper with the West Virginia State Police responded to reports of a stabbing in the Upper Bias area near Delbarton in Mingo County early in the morning on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.

Once the trooper arrived at the scene, they found that the victim, 33-year-old Kenneth Ooten, of Delbarton, was involved in a fight with Mahon. During the fight, Mahon cut Ooten’s neck with a knife.

Ooten underwent surgery for his injuries after being flown to Cabell Huntington Hospital, and Mahon was charged with Attempted Murder and taken to Southwestern Regional Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing.
