Iowa DNR Investigates Fish Kill in Northeast Iowa
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is investigating a northeast Iowa fish kill. On July 19th, the DNR Field Office in Manchester was notified of dead fish in Crane Creek, approximately two miles southwest of Readlyn in Bremer County. Officials believe the fish kill originated at 250th Street and Piedmont Avenue.
Jones County Teacher Arrested for Sending Messages to Student
A middle school gym teacher in Jones County has been charged with sexual exploitation of a minor for conversations he had with a 15-year-old student ten years ago. CBS2 reports that court records show now 50-year-old Wayne Lasack, a gym teacher in the Anamosa Community School District, reached out to a teenager on Facebook in 2014. The message stated that he wanted to see a "naughty picture" of her. She stated that she was not interested and the conversation ended. CBS2 reports that the messages were sent anonymously to the Anamosa Community School District in 2018 and were reported to police.

Police officers arrested an Anamosa gym teacher about a decade after he was accused of sending inappropriate messages to a female student. 50-year-old Wayne LaSack faces one count of sexual exploitation of a minor. There was an investigation into the 2014 incident four years later, but the principal believed the accusation by the 15-year-old girl was unfounded after LaSack denied the conversation and implied his now ex-wife sent the messages. The complaint says screenshots of the messages surfaced again this year along with additional information. Police interviewed LaSack, his ex-wife and the now former student, resulting in the arrest and new charges.

Earlier this year, 100 new, unique Herky statues were unveiled and placed around the Iowa City area as part of the 3rd generation of 'Herky on Parade.' MASON CITY, Iowa – Someone was killed Wednesday evening when they were hit by an SUV in Cerro Gordo County. The Iowa State Patrol says Jade Danielle Quam, 17 of Mason City, was driving a 2004 GMC Envoy south on Plymouth Road when the SUV struck Jennifer Dawn Buls-Vrba, 42 of Mason City, in the 1500 block at around 6:12 pm.
