Over 4 Million Pounds of Chocolate and Candy Products Recalled Over Salmonella Concerns

Clasen Quality Chocolate Inc. is recalling more than 4.3 million pounds of chocolate and confectionery products because of potential Salmonella contamination. According to the FDA, the recall was initiated on May 3, 2024, and is ongoing.

The recalled products were distributed in California, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Utah, and Washington.

What is Salmonella?

Symptoms of Salmonella infection can include diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within 12 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food. Otherwise, healthy adults are usually sick for four to seven days.

Older adults, children, pregnant women, and people with weakened immune systems are more likely to develop a severe illness. Some people get infected without getting sick or showing any symptoms. However, they may still spread the infections to others.

Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to their place of purchase for a refund.
