As long as you’re not afraid of the water, living on a boat in the Mediterranean might sound like a dream. It’s hard to imagine how incredible it must be to wake up to spectacular sunrises and end the day with equally stunning sunsets. But unlike being on a cruise ship, living on the water has some practical challenges.
One of which is buying everyday essentials like groceries. While many of us may assume these staples are purchased in the closest port, there’s also a well-equipped grocery store floating in the sea. It provides a convenient solution to this everyday challenge.
Take a look at this video from July 12 to see this impressive selection.
What a terrific idea! Brooke (@ brookedevard ) is taking us on board a floating grocery store. She reports that although this market has locations on land, they also have fully stocked boats, making it convenient for customers on the water. It’s not a tiny little shop; this is an entire supermarket equipped with shopping carts or shopping baskets. They offer fresh fish on ice, fresh fruits, veggies, meats, ice cream, and household items. They also provide other essentials such as magazines, electronics, baked goods, and even toys for the kids. It’s truly incredible, and it seems they left nothing behind.
Although these prices may have seemed high, it’s important to note that they are in Turkish lira. In fact, these stores are known for offering competitive pricing. Happy Charter reports it's common to see “The presence of floating supermarkets from major chains such as Migros and Carrefour. These markets maintain consistent pricing with their land-based counterparts, offering unparalleled convenience for boaters and yacht charter companies alike.” Besides serving boaters, these floating groceries also help deliver food and other essential items to waterfront communities without easy access to stores. This eliminates the need for individuals to travel, reducing the carbon footprint.
People were in awe of this specialty ship. One person responded, “Never heard of it before. Sounds and looks clean and nice. It’s not like a grocery store on land. This is the coolest thing I have seen in a very long time.” It is! Viewer @maceyhall remarked, “And I thought the little boat that drives around in Nantucket and Block Island harbor with fresh donuts was impressive.” That’s still a fun idea, too! Viewer @josjuggernauts responded, “Wow..so many cool things in this world that are never talked about.. thank you!” It’s a terrific lesson.
I appreciate Brooke taking us along on her Turkish holiday and showing us something we had never seen before. It looks like an experience worth adding to our bucket list.
