Many of us go out of our way to eat healthy, and yet we can still regularly experience stomach aches, gas, and bloating. According to Dr. Todd Sinett (@ backpaindoc ), even the most nutritious foods, when eaten frequently, can cause a few problems. The good news is that the simple solution is to diversify your diet. It's also important to remember that if these foods don't cause you any issues, then there's no need to change a thing.

Healthy Foods That Can Cause Stomach Upset When Eaten Frequently

    1. Salad/raw vegetables. Certain raw vegetables, such as onions, garlic, and certain cruciferous veggies, contain fermentable carbohydrates (FODMAP foods), which can be difficult for some people to digest. These vegetables are also high in fiber, which can pose a challenge for individuals, particularly those with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), to process.
    2. Oatmeal. Oats can cause problems for a number of reasons, including gluten cross-contamination, their high fiber content, and the antinutrient phytic acid . They also contain the protein avenin , which can cause allergic reactions for some.
    3. Tofu. Soybeans have a high FODMAP carbohydrate, making them hard to digest for some. The protein found in soy can also cause sensitivity and allergic reactions. Additionally, the fermentation byproducts and additives used for processing may cause stomach pain.
    4. Smoothies. Although they may be tasty, they also contain a large amount of fiber found in the fruits and seeds used to prepare them. They also contain high amounts of sugar, and even the air blended into them can cause a tummy ache.
    5. Frozen yogurt. This tasty treat can cause stomach upset because of lactose intolerance, sweeteners, and additives.
    6. Beans are another high-FODMAP food. They also contain phytic acid and lectins , which can be difficult for sensitive digestive systems to handle.
    7. Fresh-squeezed juices. The combination of high sugar and acidity can cause some digestive difficulties, especially when over-consumed.
    8. Protein Bars. The protein sources, the use of sugar alcohols, and the additives and preservatives used to make these ultra-processed foods can wreak havoc on sensitive guts.

If you've noticed your stomach has been unhappy, lessening your consumption of these foods might be all you need to feel better. It's a simple fix that's worth a try!
