Community teamwork leads to lost dog’s recovery
The Waushara County Animal Shelter (WCAS) would like to thank the greater Wautoma area for assistance in recovering one of our lost dogs. As many of you may know, one of our dogs, Buzz went missing on July 1 at 8:30 a.m. Buzz has had a tragic upbringing prior to coming to WCAS. He spooked while on a walk with two of our volunteers, and ran off with his collar, harness, and leash. Immediately our volunteers were called from their off duty lives and organized to locate Buzz. Within one hour, the volunteers assembled into search groups consisting of a total of 10 volunteers. The volunteers efforts included including: walking through swamps, thickets, and the airport tarmac, talking to neighbors, notifying Wautoma Police Department, the Waushara County Sheriff’s Department, utilizing social media and Lost Dogs of Wisconsin (who set live trap for us), WI DNR’s help, and Horizon Optics drone service. The search continued day and night.

AMHERST − A 32-year-old man involved in a nearly 24-hour armed standoff with numerous central Wisconsin law enforcement agencies is dead. The Portage County Sheriff's Office said special response teams were able to locate Jeffery E. Miller in the residence of 450 Mill Ave. in the village of Amherst about 5:30 p.m. Friday.
