    Wicomico County Fair returns with eating contests and much more. Everything to know

    The historical Wicomico County Fair is back and better than ever this month.

    Here's everything you need to know about the small-town fair, including when and where it's set to take place, what to expect, plus more.

    When and where is the Wicomico County Fair?

    The Wicomico County Fair takes place the third weekend of August each year at WinterPlace Park located at 6737 Blue Ribbon Road in Salisbury. The fair will run from Aug. 16-18. Hours are 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

    The Wicomico County Fair was created in 2015. This follows the establishment of the Wicomico Farm & Home Show in 1936. According to the fair's official website, many of the original exhibits remain.

    The family-friendly fair features an array of livestock exhibits, competitions, home arts, auctions, the 5-foot fry pan, music and vendors. Admission and parking are free. A map of the fairgrounds and schedule of this year's events can be found at www.wicomicofair.com .

    The Wicomico County Fair invites all amateur competitive eaters to participate in this year's eating competitions. All four competitions are set to take place Saturday, Aug. 17, on the Main Stage in the Entertainment Zone.

    The events are free to compete in, but space is limited. Sign up begins at 11 a.m. near the Main Stage. Participants must sign a waiver before competing. Also, contestants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

    Here's a closer look at each eating competition:

    • Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest (Youth & Adult): 12:30 p.m. Winners receive a gift card to How Sweet It Is.
    • Watermelon Eating Contest (Youth & Adult): 1:30 p.m. Winners receive a gift card to How Sweet It Is.
    • Pie Speed Eating Contest (Youth & Adult): 2:30 p.m. Winners receive a gift package from The Ugly Pie.
    • Wing War (Ages 18+): 4:30 p.m. Survive three rounds of eating progressively hotter wings. The competitor who eats all the wings in the shortest amount of time wins a championship belt and a Buffalo Wild Wings gift card.

    The Maryland High School Rodeo Association will host the renowned Rodeo Ring from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, and Saturday, Aug. 17. Then, fairgoers are invited to watch the Mounted Shooters from 12-4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18.
