    Berlin stores in spotlight for Maryland Tax-Free Week with comptroller visit

    Comptroller Brooke E. Lierman visited Berlin retailers Thursday afternoon to promote Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week, which ends Saturday. The comptroller was joined by Cailey Locklair, president of the Maryland Retailers Alliance, Berlin Mayor Zack Tyndall, Berlin’s Director of Economic and Community Development Ivy Wells and Berlin Town Administrator Mary Bohlen.

    During Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week, shoppers in Maryland can buy qualifying clothing and shoes priced at $100 less without paying the state’s 6% sales tax. The first $40 of backpack sales are also not subject to sales tax.

    Comptroller's stops on tour of Berlin, Maryland

    Madison Avenue Boutique

    Comptroller Lierman began her tour with a stop at Madison Avenue Boutique, a women’s clothing store on Main Street owned by Seka Tucker.

    Treaty General Store and Relish Decor

    Comptroller Lierman then stopped by Treaty General Store, owned by Mark and Hallie Burrier. Comptroller Lierman also visited Relish Décor, which is also owned by the Burriers.

    Heart of Gold Kids

    Comptroller Lierman then visited Heart of Gold Kids, owned by Emily Vocke.

    Jun and Juice

    For her final stop of the tour, Comptroller Lierman visited Jun and Juice, owned by Megan and Brett Hines. Jun and Juice is known for making products using locally-sourced produce.
