Where things stand in Bayside South fall sports with the regular season coming to a close

There are just a couple weeks left in the Bayside Conference's regular season for fall sports like Soccer, Field Hockey and Volleyball. And is shaping up to be an exciting end to the season, as teams race towards the finish line in hopes of making the Bayside Conference Championship games, and potentially bringing home a trophy before the regional playoffs begin.

In field hockey, soccer and volleyball, multiple teams are looking to go back-to-back as Bayside South Champions, and they each look well set up to do so as the regular season draws to a close. But they will also have to fend off challengers in big head-to-head matchups in the final days.

Here is a breakdown of where things stand in fall sports with just two weeks left before the Bayside Championships begin:

    Boys Soccer

The James M. Bennett Clippers are as dominant as ever in boys soccer, currently undefeated through Oct. 7 and scoring over 50 goals while only conceding two, with just a handful of games left to seal another Bayside South title. But those games will be tough ones, as they face off against the usual suspects of challengers.

The Clippers have two big games against Stephen Decatur and Parkside next week, as they travel to face Decatur on Oct. 15 and two days later host Parkside. These three teams have been the three best in the Bayside this season, as they usually are, and they are just behind the unbeaten Clippers in the standings, with minimal blemishes on their resume. Those two games will likely decide not just who wins the South, but also the Bayside as a whole.

    Girls Soccer

The biggest game of the girls soccer season is set to take place this Wednesday, as the undefeated two-time defending Bayside Champion James M. Bennett Clippers travel to face fellow undefeated team, the Stephen Decatur Seahawks, in a familiar rivalry matchup for these two squads.

In Class 1A, Mardela has continued it's excellence from last year, firmly standing in third place in the Bayside South, and fell positioned to make another deep playoff run like they did last season.

    Field Hockey

After falling just short of a state championship three-peat last season, the Pocomoke Warriors have come back for the 2024 season on a mission, winning all of their Bayside games and only conceding one goal. Looking to grab their 22nd state championship, and a Bayside and regional title along the way, they look in good shape to do so with just a few weeks left in the regular season.

One big matchup for the Warriors before the regular season wraps up will be the finale against the Stephen Decatur, as their Worcester County rivals have put up an impressive record this season, losing just once as they look to grab back-to-back regional championships. It will be both an exciting regular season finale, and one final regular season test for two top teams before they embark on their playoff runs.

    Volleyball

The Parkside Rams are looking to go back-to-back as Bayside South champions, as they represented the South in the Bayside Conference Championship game last year before losing to a Queen Anne's team that would become two-time conference champions. The Rams and the Queen Anne's Lions currently stand at the top of their respective standings in the Bayside North and South, potentially setting up a rematch between the two teams.

Parkside has five games left, two of them against Bennett and Decatur, their main challengers in the Bayside South. As teams look to knock off Queen Anne's County and grab a Bayside title, the winner of the Bayside South could still be up for grabs, but Parkside is in a good spot to clinch things in the coming games.
