Fatal crash in La Porte County leaves one dead
LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- On July 19 at 11:54 a.m., deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash on CR 300 North, west of Johnson Road. The on-scene investigation determined that a 2010 Ford Explorer was heading west on CR 300 North when it traveled to the left and crossed the eastbound lane.
Federal Sentence for Gun Sale in Michigan City
(South Bend, IN) - A Chicago man has been sentenced on a federal gun charge with ties to Michigan City. In January of last year, 42-year-old Allory Smith of Chicago sold a rifle, a handgun, and ammunition to a buyer in the Michigan City area. According to authorities, Smith referred to the rifle as a “real license to kill” because he believed it had previously been reported stolen. With several prior felony convictions, Smith is prohibited from possessing firearms.
Matteson man leads Indiana State Police on wild chase
Indiana State Police said on U.S. Route 20 near C.R. 400 E. troopers attempted to stop a black Jeep that was speeding in a 45 mph zone. The driver, 19-year-old Roberto Valencuela of Matteson, refused to pull over and fled the scene.
