CARROLL COUNTY, Ind. — This week’s court hearings in the Delphi Murders case could, once again, change the landscape of the case and potentially the trial itself.

Beginning Tuesday, July 30th, the attorneys for suspect Richard Allen and the prosecution will argue several issues in the Delphi Murders case. Carroll County Prosecutor Nick McLeland has requested any information about Odinism, alternative suspects, and other theories presented by attorneys Andrew Baldwin and Brad Rozzi be prevented from any presentation during the upcoming trial.

Attorneys Baldwin and Rozzi have long claimed Allen did not kill Abigail Williams and Liberty German. They point the finger at several other men in the Delphi area who they claim belong to a religious sect called Odinism. That kind of information is what Prosecutor McLeland does not want presented to the jury.

The defense has a few more motions on their side that need to be argued, including the suppression of Richard Allen’s prison “confessions”, the motion to compel the State to hand over any evidence it may still possess, and the sanctioning Nick McLeland for lost evidence and abuse of discovery rules. Allen’s attorneys also want the case dismissed and have also filed a motion to move the suspect out of state prison.

The hearings begin July 30th, 31st and August 1st at 8 o’clock in the morning.

You will not be able to get up-to-date and clear information on the hearings until the evening due to Special Judge Fran Gull’s insistence that media is not allowed to broadcast any part of the hearings.

WTHR-TV and WISH-TV in Indianapolis requested to broadcast the hearings, and just like each time in the past, Judge Gull denied those requests without reason.

The trial is supposed to begin Monday, October 14th, however any of the aforementioned motions could change that trial date. The trial date has changed several times in the past for several different reasons, and each motion above presents an opportunity for the court proceedings to change direction.

The current trial schedule is listed as October 14th to November 15th.
