The FDA says it's likely that one cause of a recent salmonella outbreak linked to cucumbers was untreated canal water used to water the produce.

Delray Beach-based Fresh Start Produce was supplied the cucumbers by Bedner Growers in Boynton Beach and federal officials say the water used by the growers tested positive for salmonella.

450 people in several states were sickened by cucumbers and crates of the produce were recalled in late May.

The FDA says Bedner is not responsible for all of the illnesses reported between late March and early June, however.

There are no remaining cucumbers on the market that were supplied by the grower.
