Surprise for Students

Ten lucky South Florida high school seniors had a lot to smile about. They each received $20,000 toward their college studies.

Florida Power & Light surprised the college-bound kids with the NextEra Energy Scholarship for Students in Science, Engineering, Communication, Mathematics and Enrichment scholarships.

The NextEra Energy Scholarship for students in SECME is a merit award of up to $20,000 for high school seniors who plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college or university for the upcoming academic year.

This year’s scholarship winners are:

1. Alexis N. Idun-Ogde (American Senior High School, Hialeah)

2. Daniel Perodin (Miami Palmetto Senior High School, Miami)

3. Elisha M. Jackson (Palm Beach Gardens High School, Palm Beach Gardens)

4. Gianna F. Roberts (School for Advanced Studies, Homestead)

Following the surprise, the students and their families celebrated with a reception at Manatee Lagoon, an FPL Eco-Discovery Center in Rivera Beach.
