DELRAY BEACH — Country music star Brett Young surprised fans June 26 at Tin Roof, a popular Delray Beach bar on East Atlantic Avenue.

Young's appearance was a "Secret Session" pop-up hosted by South Florida country radio station New Country 103.1. Around 250 people showed up to watch Young's hourlong show.

"It was great," said Jeff Krammer, general manager of Tin Roof. "It was an iconic moment to have such a celebrity or high-status individual come and do a free show for the public. It was an honor to host someone of that stature."

New Country 103.1 Secret Sessions are hosted every six weeks or so, Krammer said. The radio station has listeners call in to win tickets, and the venue for the show is announced later.

    Who is Brett Young?

Young is a native of Orange County, Calif., and a country pop singer, songwriter and guitarist currently touring the U.S. and Canada.

Once a college baseball pitcher for the University of Mississippi, Young took up songwriting after an injury to his elbow. His first studio album, a self-titled debut produced by American record producer Dann Huff, was released in 2017.

He's since released the albums "Ticket to L.A." in December 2018; "Weekends Look a Little Different These Days" in June 2021; "Brett Young & Friends Sing the Christmas Classics" in September 2021; and "Across the Sheets" in August 2023.

How many number-one songs does Brett Young have?

As of June 2022, Young had seven consecutive No. 1 hits, according to his record label, Big Machine Label Group. Four of those have come from his first studio album, "Brett Young."

His most popular song, also on the "Brett Young" soundtrack, is "In Case You Didn't Know." This March, it earned the Diamond Award from the Recording Industry Association of America for having sold 10 million copies. Young posted about it on his TikTok and Instagram accounts, thanking fans for the song's success.
