There are Just 5 Rural Southern Michigan Counites Without an Interstate Highway
Southern Michigan is the most populated region of the state, so it's no surprise that the most interstate highways crisscross this portion of the state. Interstates 94 and 96 run west to east and I-69 and I-75 are north-south (until I-69 hits Lansing and changes orientation). Add in I-196 up the lakeshore and you will find nearly all counties in the southern portion of the state have interstate highways.
Crisis averted at the Wood Co. Fair Milkshake Barn
TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - It was a close call for thewood County Clover Legacy Foundation and 4-H club at the Wood County Fairgrounds. The team learned their water was set to be shut off, which would’ve left 700 tubs of ice cream at the milkshake barn to melt and go sour. With some quick thinking and the generosity of some local business owners there will be milkshakes at the fair this weekend.
Reds fans will hate latest roster move even though it's the right call
Deep breath, Reds fans. It's going to be okay. On Friday afternoon, the Cincinnati Reds activated TJ Friedl from the injured list after the centerfielder had been sidelined with a hamstring injury. But wait, there's more. In order to clear a spot for Friedl on the active roster, the Reds...
10 years later, has Toledo’s image recovered from water crisis?
Second in a series For a city with natural bodies of water that are often tinged green by annual summer algal blooms, it may be surprising that a Google search of Toledo does not immediately evoke a dark spot in the region’s history. However, a search of “Toledo, Ohio” with the additional keyword “2014” generates pages of articles, including some from the most widely-read publications in the world, lamenting a 2014 algae outbreak in Lake Erie’s Western Basin that left Toledo without drinking water for several days — nearly universally referred to as the Toledo water crisis. A click on the images tab from that same search reveals a collage of green as numerous photos of the algae-infested water circled the internet following the crisis.
Lake Twp. trustees plan to ask for new levy to support hiring full-time EMS workers
Part-time EMS employees are leaving Lake Township for full-time opportunities, leading trustees to change their minds about putting a new operating levy on the Nov. 5 ballot. The trustees are planning to put a 1.5-mill, five-year operating levy for EMS before voters. If passed, it will generate $500,000 annually and cost the owner of a $100,000 property $53 a year, Trustee Richard Welling said on Friday. “We’re losing our EMS people,” he said, adding that four part-time workers have left in the last month for full-time opportunities. The new money would fund four full-time EMS positions, Mr. Welling said.

Toledo Jeep Fest expected to draw 72,000
It’s almost the time when Jeeps and Jeepers take over downtown Toledo to celebrate the city’s iconic product. The four-day Toledo Jeep Fest kicks off at 3 p.m. Thursday with a Jeep off-road course welcome party and concludes on Sunday afternoon. Between the start and finish, the major events at the festival include an indoor exhibit at Glass City Center with 100 vehicles on display, a parade of Jeeps, a rock-crawling course, a Jeep-themed four-mile run and one-mile walk, a block party thrown by the Glass City Crawlers, and a free concert by Mark Farner’s American Band. And since Jeeps are built by union workers, it’s fitting that one of the participants in the event’s parade will be United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain. “We started Toledo Jeep Fest right here in my office,” said UAW Local 12 President Bruce Baumhower. “It was such a great idea for Toledo that years ago we raised $30,000 in five minutes. And look how it’s grown since then.”
Sunday Chat with Perrysburg Olympic gold medalist Anna Tunnicliffe Tobias
Anna Tunnicliffe was a stranger in a strange land. The 12-year-old had moved from England to Perrysburg and she just wanted to fit in. She found her happy place: North Cape Yacht Club in nearby La Salle, Mich., where she started a competitive sailing career that would take her around the world and to the top of the Olympic podium. The 2001 Perrysburg graduate was a three-sport star for the Yellow Jackets — cross country, swimming, and track, winning the district championship in the 800 as a senior.
