The 6,814-square-foot home at 85 Haights Cross Road in Chappaqua was most recently listed for $1.9 million, according to the real estate listing. But the property was taken off the market in April, roughly six months after it was first listed in the fall of 2023, according to realtor.com . It is nicknamed the "moon house," the "spaceship house" and occasionally dubbed the "moon and sun house."

Location

Chappaqua is a hamlet within the town of New Castle, Westchester County, and roughly 30 miles north of New York City. It is within the Chappaqua Central School District.

About the property

It is surely unique. Designed by architect John Koster and built 1969 for the Mechner family, the domed-shaped mansion is on 8.86 acres on a forested property. The seven-bedroom, six-bathroom house is centered around an indoor swimming pool and terrarium in a large dome-shaped atrium. With its curved arc, exposed-beams, wood ceiling and walls of windows that flood the space with natural light, the uniquely designed home offers a seamless transition from indoors to outdoors. The house also has a massive wooden deck. Some of the interior features were removed (such as parts of the kitchen and bedrooms) to be revamped.

A log cabin dating back to the 1920s is also located on the property, according to realtor.com.
