The shooting death of a Scottsville man this summer was ruled a justified shooting by the Monroe County District Attorney's Office.

Kevin J. DeFlavis, 43, of Scottsville was fatally shot on Main Street in the Village of Scottsville about 2:20 a.m. on June 30.

The person who shot DeFlavis "did so during the course of a burglary in progress at his home, at the hands of Mr. DeFlavis, putting himself and his family at risk of serious harm," said Amy Young, spokeswoman for the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

The homeowner also had a no contact order of protection in effect against DeFlavis, which DeFlavis violated during the course of the burglary, she said.

After reviewing the case, she said, the DA's Office "deemed the investigation complete" and determined that "the shooter was justified in his actions."
