Apple juice recall expands to Aldi, Dollar General brands. See the list of affected products

More apple juice has been recalled from several stores throughout New York for containing potentially harmful levels of arsenic.

Florida-based Refresco Beverages US Inc . recalled over 133,000 cases of apple juice, including brands distributed to New York Walmart, Aldi and Dollar General locations. The company didn't immediately respond to the USA TODAY Network's request for comment.

An initial voluntary Class II recall for almost 10,000 cases of the eight-ounce Great Value Apple Juice sold at Walmart stores in a six-pack with PET plastic bottles (UPC 0-78742-29655-5) was issued in August, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) , as the apple juice “contains inorganic arsenic above the action level set in industry guidance.”

Which products have been recalled

Walmart's Great Value brand, Aldi's Nature's Nectar brand and Dollar General's Clover Valley brand were sold in New York stores, the FDA's report states. Here's which recalled products have been sold in New York:

• Walmart: Great Value 8 oz. Apple Juice in six-pack PET plastic bottle; Best If Used By Dec. 26, 2024, Dec. 27, 2024 (CT89-6)
• Walmart: Great Value 96 oz. Apple Juice PET plastic bottle; Best If Used By Dec. 26, 2024, Dec. 27, 2024, Dec. 28, 2024 (CT89-5)
• Aldi: Nature's Nectar 100% Apple Juice 64 oz. PET plastic bottle; Best by March 26, 2025, March 27, 2025 (CT89-4)
• Dollar General: Clover Valley 100% Apple Juice 64 oz. PET plastic bottle; Best by March 27, 2025 (CT89-4)

What is the difference between organic arsenic and inorganic arsenic?

Inorganic arsenic is a confirmed carcinogen, something that can cause cancer, and is a “chemical contaminant in drinking-water globally,” according to the World Health Organization (WHO) .

The intergovernmental organization says that inorganic arsenic compounds, which are typically found in water, are very toxic. However, organic arsenic compounds, which are found in seafood, are less harmful.

What to do if you've purchased the affected products

Aldi is telling its customers to discard the recalled products immediately or return them to their local store for a full refund, according to a news release . And if you'd like any additional information, Aldi is directing customers to contact Refresco Beverages US Inc. by calling 1-888-260-3776.

"ALDI puts the safety and integrity of the products it sells first," the news release stated. "ALDI sincerely regrets the inconvenience and concern caused as a result of this recall."

Walmart and Dollar General didn't immediately respond to the USA TODAY Network's request for comment.
