Hilton, East/WOIS receive boost: New York state football rankings for Sept. 25

By Justin Ritzel, Rochester Democrat and Chronicle,

Hilton pitched a perfect second half in a Class AA meeting with Rush-Henrietta last week. The Cadets' reward is their first appearance in the New York State Sportswriters Association rankings .

The team debuted at No. 25 this week, thanks to its 21-14 victory over the visiting Royal Comets. In that game, Hilton trailed at multiple points in the first half, but worked a tie at halftime and scored the only touchdown of the second half to preserve its unbeaten record.

That unblemished schedule will face arguably its biggest test of the season this week, when the Cadets face five-time defending Class AA champion McQuaid. The Knights had a similar scare against the up-and-coming Rush-Henrietta two weeks ago, then engaged in a dogfight with Penfield last week before pulling away late.

Section V football rankings: See who tops our lists of Top 10 schools

Biggest riser: East High/World of Inquiry — The Eagles bumped four spots in Class A, thanks to consecutive wins. The team's lone loss remains Week 1 against Section III's Christian Brothers Academy, currently the No. 4 team in Class AA.

Biggest faller: Aquinas — The Lil Irish suffered their first loss of the season last week to upstart Fairport, and are now grouped with the honorable mentions after landing at 11th last week.
