A security guard was shot while breaking up a fight inside a Rochester bar early Thursday morning, according to police.

Officers were called to JD Oxfords Bar & Pub, 636 Monroe Ave., around 1:45 a.m. to investigate the reported shooting, said Capt. Adam Radens of the Rochester Police Department. Officers found that a 37-year-old man, a security guard at the bar, was shot at least once in the lower body as he broke up a fight inside the bar.

It was not clear whether the security guard was the intended target, Radens said. The shooter, who fired at least one round inside the bar, fled before police arrived at the scene, he said.

The injured employee, whose name was not released, suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening, Radens said. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported.

Police are investigating. No charges have been filed in connection with the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.

The bar is on a busy stretch of Monroe Avenue, two blocks east of South Goodman Street, in Rochester's Pearl-Meigs-Monroe neighborhood.
