By Steve Howe, Rochester Democrat and Chronicle,

A classically cool and crisp fall evening is expected when the Buffalo Bills clash with the New York Jets and interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich on Monday Night Football.

It’s the second Monday night game for the Bills this season and their fourth primetime game in just six games. Wind could play a factor, however, with breezy conditions and gusts nearing 30 mph expected at kickoff.

How Bills vs. Jets weather is impacting odds, betting

The Bills are 2.5-point favorites over the Aaron Rodgers-led Jets, with an over-under of 41 points.

As wind speeds increase beyond the NFL average of 7 mph, passing metrics decrease, both in production and efficiency, according to betting site covers.com. It’s not just passing that’s affected, either. When winds reach 20 mph, as gusts are expected to on Monday, the average field goal distance drops about 7 yards and the conversion rate also drops by 6%.

    • The Bills lead the all-time series over the Jets 69-58, but despite the sheer volume of games against each other, have only played in the postseason once, in 1981, which the Bills won 31-27. Buffalo blew out the Jets the last time they played, 32-6, on Nov. 19, 2023.
    • The Bills and Jets play Monday, Oct. 14 at 8:15 p.m. at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The game will be broadcast on ESPN. Joe Buck and Troy Aikman will call the game.
