Now is the kind of DIY we like to see.

No way was this creator about to spend thousands of dollars on a new headboard for her bed. As cute as the designs from Pottery Barn and West Elm might be, they are anything but affordable. So instead of shelling out every last dollar in her bank account, this DIYer decided to dive headfirst into building one herself. She saved over a thousand dollars and honestly we are so impressed.

If you've been eyeing a high-end piece of furniture online but your budget is nowhere near the price, then you should always consider the DIY route. Not only will you save a ton of money, but you'll be able to customize your piece specifically to you. And what's better than that?

Once TikTok creator Mal ( @malmakesthings ) decided that she wanted to redecorate her bedroom, she knew it had to be within a set budget. Brand new furniture is wildly expensive nowadays so she was determined to figure out ways to bring her dream aesthetic to life without breaking the bank.

How Much Do Floral Headboards Cost?

One item she has been loving lately is floral headboards but unfortunately these go for a minimum of $200 a piece, some even as high as over $1,000. Clearly buying one brand new was not an option for her so she decided to search Facebook Marketplace and up-cycle an old headboard into her dream one. This in total only cost her $65!

Mal found a basic fabric headboard secondhand with a shape that she loved. She then grabbed a stunning piece of red and white floral patterned upholstery fabric and a staple gun and got to work.

Despite her lack of upholstery experience, Mal did an incredible job at figuring out how to make this project work. She removed the legs of the headboard first before stapling on the fabric. It literally took her only ten minutes to complete! Last but not least she drilled it into her bed frame and called it a day.

If you want to revamp your bedroom, consider getting a secondhand headboard and decorating it with fabric to save money!
