As much as we love sitting outside during the warm evenings of summer, there is one con to the entire experience. You can probably already guess what we're going to say: mosquitoes, obviously.

If you've tried a variety of sprays, chemicals, and products but still can't get rid of the pesky bugs circling your legs and ankles, then it might be time to give this viral DIY a try.

While it may not work for other types of flying insects, it definitely worked for this mom in getting rid of the mosquitoes in her outdoor seating area and that's enough of an anecdote for us to give it a try.

While this recipe might not solve the issue of your kids fighting over toys in the summertime, it can help relieve your skin of irritating mosquito bites while you try and break up said fight. Hey, we'll take what we can get.

TikTok creator and mom Meredith Steele ( @babiesofsteele ) shares tidbits of her family life to her 1.1 million followers and sometimes this includes life hacks that she swears by. If there's anyone we trust in this world to give us advice, it's this woman.

Meredith had seen this viral pest control trend circulate the internet and since she had been dealing with mosquitoes herself, she decided to give it a try. She was surprised at how well it actually worked!

How to Get Rid of Mosquitoes with Coffee Grounds

    Here's what you need:

    - a small bowl of coffee grounds

    - a lighter

Yep, that's it. Simply hold the lighter flame to the grounds for about ten seconds and keep that burning bowl of beans beside you while you sit outside.

And no, this isn't just a silly TikTok trend! It's well known in the gardening community that coffee grounds repel mosquitoes due to their strong smell. Lighting the grounds on fire or dampening them with water will enhance the smell and ward off those pesky bugs.

Now does it smell like a Starbucks? The jury's still out on that. Meredith says it oddly smells like popcorn instead of coffee. But hey, we'll take it!
