As a lifelong fan of books like Lord of the Rings and Eragon , I would gladly escape from the modern world into the realm of fae and fantasy if given the chance. Unfortunately, since that kind of dimension-hopping technology doesn't exist in the real world, I'm stuck with doing the next best thing: pursuing real-life adventures that replicate the experience of living in a fantasy world, even for a day.

My "fantasy" bucket list is already kinda long, but I'm considering adding yet another item to it: namely, a stay in this one-of-a-kind Airbnb in the woods of western Oregon. This unique cottage, shipped all the way over from Estonia, promises a singular fairytale escape. Check this out:

The Cocoon Cottage, which vlogger @itsloganmarie visited with her girlfriend, is unlike any other "fairy-tale style cottage" I've ever seen. As its name implies, it looks more like the enormous cocoon of some giant moth (Mothra?) than any traditional home. Yet its weird, organic appearance only serves to heighten its ethereal vibes: it looks like the kind of home a fae creature would inhabit.

Past the curving, shingled exterior, Logan and her girlfriend were met with a clean, simple cottage interior with a little kitchenette, a snug sitting area, and a big, comfy bed, hidden in its nook behind a set of green velvet curtains. Their cabin had a small bathroom past the kitchen, and the front deck had an outdoor soaking tub overlooking the beautiful lake below.

The couple had access to the lake (plus a paddleboat to explore it on) via a dock leading down on the property's second level. The second level also had a fire pit, another viewing deck, and a sauna in the same cocoon-like design as the cottage. It's as cozy, intimate, and open as a dreamy forest getaway could be, but its fantasy edge sets it apart from your typical woodsy retreat!

    From Estonia to Oregon

The Cocoon Cottage is the product of vacation home designer Kristie Wolfe, known for creating singularly strange stays like the Big Idaho Potato Hotel (an Idaho countryside cabin that's literally shaped like a giant potato) and The Hobbit Inn in Chelan, Washington. As Wolfe explained in a YouTube interview with Tiny House Giant Journey , she wanted to experiment with pre-fab buildings for a change. She started her online search after acquiring this beautiful property on the Oregon Coast, and found what she was looking for across the globe in Eastern Europe . It was exactly what she was looking for, but getting it to the West Coast was no easy feat.

"I saw this really cute [pre-fab] from Iglucraft, and they're manufactured in Estonia," said Wolfe. "Naively, I thought doing a pre-fab build would be super quick and easy, but that was not the case. With the supply chain shortage, and then the ports being full, the biggest challenge was shipping it from overseas."

"It was originally supposed to take 30 to 45 days and be $6,000. It took 9 months and forty-something thousand dollars," she admitted. "I actually think that the shipping ended up being more expensive than the units."

But good things are worth the struggle, and despite all the snags, Wolfe finally built her fairytale pre-fab cabin and sauna on her idyllic lakeside property. It now sits overlooking the waters of North Tenmile Lake, a few miles away from the southern Oregon coastline .

Unfortunately, the Cocoon Cottage isn't open to the public quite yet, but it looks like they're gearing up for their grand opening. Prospective guests who want to book a stay here once it's fully open can join the Cocoon Cottage's waitlist and be among the first to know when the big day comes!
