Home Depot Is Selling 'Rare' Houseplants and People Can't Wait to Get Their Hands on Them

How's your indoor plant situation? As someone who likes a little bit of homey horticulture, I can appreciate wanting to step outside the stereotypical box of succulents, spider plants, and fiddleleaf figs to find something more eye-catching and unusual - but where to find these less common plants?
Well, according to plant lover Ashley Anita, you might want to try your luck at Home Depot right about now. They're stocking up on "rare" (or at least less common) houseplants that'll really shake up your indoor greenery game. Check these out:
Home Depot has seriously beefed up their houseplant stock with some impressive finds! Ashley (aka @lifewithashleyanita ) was particularly psyched over all the philodendrons they had on sale, many of them at discounted prices. Granted, philodendrons themselves aren't exactly uncommon indoor plants , but her Home Depot had some exciting rarer varieties, including the Jungle Boogie plant. And the fun didn't stop with phildendrons. Home Depot (at least Ashley's location) had a veritable horticultural haul of fabulous ficuses, homey hoyas, stylish stromanthes, and much more!
But the thing that Ashley's followers found the most remarkable here was the prices. There's nothing here that one couldn't find at an exotic plant nursery, but the deals alone (compared to boutique plant store prices) were nothing to sniff at.
"I paid $80 for my calathea from a small independent shop. But I will still go to Home Depot to see if my local store got any of these in now. Thanks for posting!" @nataliefurgeson said.
"I paid $180 for my gloriosum... discounted," mourned @kellyboyanski. Should have made a Home Depot run!
To be fair to independent plant nurseries , not everyone will have the same luck at their Home Depot as Ashley did. Potted plant availability can vary a lot from store to store, and oftentimes, the tradeoff for Home Depot's low prices is less specialized care, with some commenters complaining that their Home Depot plants were overwatered or had spider mites (though other commenters found their Home Depot plants in excellent condition - it's all very location-dependent).
This isn't to discourage anyone from plant shopping at your Home Depot, but temper your expectations. Hit up their website to see what plants your local store has in stock first, and vet your plants in person rather than ordering them online!
Labor Day Sale
If you're inspired to hit up Home Depot on a plant run sometime soon, make it happen this week. Home Depot currently has a big Labor Day Sale running from now until September 4, with sweet discounts and deals available both online and in store locations throughout the contiguous US.
Every department (yes, including the garden department) has tons and tons of items on sale, so if you've been putting off a big home improvement haul, now's the time. Incidentally, this sale also covers a lot of their Halloween decor right now - and who doesn't need a 12-foot-tall skeleton in their yard come October?
Also In the springtime sales there were so highly priced. Okay, no one could afford them now they're trying to sell them before they dry all the way up . HOME" DEPOT" needs to do better.
