I confess that I'm a sucker for mid-century modern furniture, and I consider myself lucky in that I've been able to source a few authentic MCM pieces at reasonable prices to decorate my home with. Still, I know from experience that finding affordable and authentic MCM furniture isn't always easy, and sometimes you have to make do with modern imitations to approximate the style without breaking the bank.

That's why I got excited when I saw this gorgeous MCM-inspired shoe cabinet while browsing online. It's got a warm, sleek design ripped straight from the peak of the mid-century modern era, yet it's available from Amazon at an appealingly affordable price.

The Five Willowise Shoe Storage Cabinet

This Shoe Storage Cabinet from Five Willowise on Amazon puts the bare-bones basic shoe cubby I currently have at home to shame. At $139.99 full price, it's obviously a bit more expensive than your average shoe cubby, but, well, there's also a whole lot more to it than the average shoe cubby, even putting aside its gorgeous mid-century modern -inspired design.

The shoe cabinet includes two spacious rattan-decorated flip drawers, each of them featuring adjustable shelves. The shelves can be kept in place to store flat shoes on the top and bottom, or removed to make extra room for boots and high heels. Since the cabinets flip up rather than sliding in and out, the cabinet is only about 9.8" deep, making it ideal for narrow foyers and entryways .

The whole shoe cabinet stands a little over 43" in full, with over 6" of clearance space at the bottom for tucking away a few extra pairs of "grab 'n' go" shoes. There's another open-faced cubby at the top for storing extra accessories, and it includes an embedded LED sensor light. No need to flip on a switch to grab your keys from the cubby at night - the light switches on automatically! Finally, at the very top, there's a 9.8" x 23.6" countertop with a raised around the top that's just perfect for extra decor.

    Mid-Century Modern Chic from Amazon

Before I even saw all the extra features, though, what immediately grabbed me about the piece was its look. Between its simple wood paneled surface, the clean, no-frills design, and the chic woven rattan decoration on the drawers, the shoe cabinet looked like it came straight out of the late 1950s in the best kind of way. The design also comes in beige and black, but I felt that the natural-looking brown version fit into the mid-century modern chic the best.

The Five Willowise Shoe Cabinet also comes in a two-piece version for about $240, but really, it's the exact same cabinet doubled over (still, that's about a $40ish discount compared to buying two of the single cabinets separately). The modular design means you can line up as many of these cabinets as you like side-by-side and it'll still look seamless. One Amazon reviewer bought 3 units to put side-by-side, saying that he absolutely loved them and that they "couldn't be beat for the quality and price."

While I always prefer buying vintage originals and reusing old furniture when I can, it's nice to know that there's still some great modern finds that fit into the mid-century modern aesthetic I love. This Five Willowise Shoe Storage Cabinet is going right onto my Amazon wishlist, pronto!
