Arnolds Park, IA (KICD) — Overnight the Iowa Great Lakes returned to a busy resort town over the weekend. Flood waters have receded to the point that speed limits were removed. Boats could be observed on the lakes, several hospitality businesses reported their best weekend of the year, and the weekend concerts at Arnolds Park Amusement Park – including a paid show Sunday night – were packed.
John Deere cuts 67 workers from its Johnston finance operation
Deere & Co. cuts this week in Iowa climbed to 170 workers in Johnston, Dubuque and Waterloo, after the Illinois manufacturer of iconic tractors and combines announced it's trimming its salaried workforce. The Moline ag giant notified Iowa Workforce Development Thursday it's cutting 67 employees at John Deere Financial in Johnston. On Wednesday, Deere told the state it's cutting 34 employees in Dubuque and 69 in Waterloo. The cuts were effective Wednesday. ...

West Nile Has Been Found in Iowa Mosquitoes
The good news is that at the time of writing, no humans in Iowa have yet tested positive for the West Nile virus. Mosquitos on the other hand have been found containing the virus in central Iowa. According to KCRG, mosquitoes were trapped at a park in West Ames sometime in mid-July. The park where these mosquitoes were found is sprayed or fogged every Wednesday night. Some of these mosquitoes contained the West Nile virus.

FEMA offering help for saving family heirlooms damaged by floods
DES MOINES, IA (KELO.com) — Thousands of families across the region are still picking up the pieces from floods that hit one month ago. Many photos, books and other family treasures have been damaged, but FEMA is offering help with those items. Preservation professionals will be available at Disaster Recovery Centers over the next week. The specialists will be on hand to demonstrate such tasks as cleaning photographs, preserving books, documents, electronic media and textiles. The demonstrations are free and follow this schedule:
