Franklin County teen arrested, given 9 charges after leading late-night police chase
LOUISBURG, Kan. (KCTV) - A 19-year-old was arrested and charged in Franklin County on Friday after he was involved in a police chase. According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened around 10:52 p.m. on Aug. 30. Damon Estes of Osawatomie, Kansas, is accused of leading police on a chase down K-68 Highway, east of Louisburg, Kansas.

SMSD News: Shawnee Mission Board of Education approves budget for 2024-2025 school year
On August 26, 2024, the Shawnee Mission Board of Education approved the budget for the 2024-2025 school year in the amount of $611,930,693. The Board established a mill rate of 51.316, and the district continues to maintain the highest possible bond rating. This means when the SMSD seeks to issue bonds, it receives the best possible interest rates on those bonds.
USD 428 chooses Freedom Claims as new TPA after BMI closure
The sudden closure of Benefit Management Inc. (BMI) in Great Bend on Aug. 8 put several area businesses in a bind. The Great Bend school district was one of the large employers that used BMI as a third-party administrator (TPA) of its insurance plan. During Wednesday's USD 428 Board of Education Luncheon at Riley Elementary School, Assistant Superintendent John Popp announced the district has hired Freedom Claims Management as its new TPA.
