Discussing the journey to passion and purpose

DENTON — A large group of women gathered at the Wharves of Choptank Visitors Center Thursday morning to be a part of a conversation about passion and purpose.

Four panelists were queried by Amanda Kidd, a food and hospitality innovator and cofounder of Build Legacy Now, who moderated the APG of Chesapeake Women to Watch Summer Speaker Series event.

The speakers included Meisha Amia, an author, speaker and founder of the Nurse Power Network; Shay Lewis-Sisco, founder of Maryland Parents Supporting Parents; Megan Rosendale, the realtor behind the Mid-Shore Love Down Payment Grant; and Kimberly Boggerty, author of “Get Your W.A.I.T Up Sis!” and a clinical trial manager.

Kristi English, director of marketing and events at APG Media of Chesapeake, told those gathered, “If nothing else we hope you feel supported here. The overarching theme is finding your purpose and passion. Are you satisfied with what you are doing right now?”

The speakers offered bright and heartfelt answers to Kidd’s questions. A couple of the women spoke to the nagging inner voice that asks, “Am I worthy?”

This can lead to imposter syndrome, they said, which has to be countered with a strong dose confidence and faith.

Amia said, “Going through the journey not being afraid of the journey. If I was afraid of the journey, passion and purpose would not meet. You have to know when to move with the journey and not be reluctant to it. It will flow, it will go, but you have to allow it.”

Rosendale was in college when the economic crash came, and her parent’s ability to help with college ran out. She got her realtor’s license and found her calling.

“It was a process for me to figure out where I was supposed to be because it took me so long to get that preconceived notion out of my head,” she said. “Like I should be in college. When really my purpose shifted me to you need to be home and towing the family line.”

Lewis-Sisco also spoke to the journey that brought her to her purpose.

“Everything that I had experienced was leaving clues to what I was purposed to do,” she said. “I am definitely on the path to understand that purpose that what I was created for was to support others.”

Boggerty said her passion came later in her life after an unexpected event made her reevaluate.

“I didn’t realize my passion until three years ago. At my profession I was always that magnet that people felt they could come and talk to me. I didn’t realize that I was that great listener,” she said. “Around four years ago my world turned upside down. It was life shattering, but even in those feelings of depression, of feeling defeated, my passion woke up. That is where my passion and purpose aligned with each other. I realized I couldn’t share my story if I hadn’t been through a certain thing.”

The engaged crowd then got a chance to ask a few questions of the panelists. Afterwards, the panelist sat down at separate tables to connect in a more intimate way with the participants.

The event was sponsored by Sisk Fulfillment Services Inc and U Stream WiFi LLC.
