In Baltimore, teens more likely to be charged as adults than in the past
Baltimore City law enforcement officials are arresting fewer juveniles than they were a few years ago, but charging a greater portion of them as adults. Data from the Baltimore Police Department and analyzed by the Sentencing Project shows that on average from 2021 through the first five months of 2024, roughly 25-30% of juveniles arrested were charged as adults. By comparison, about 12% — half that rate — were charged as adults in 2018 and 2019.

3rd Maryland man arrested in Columbia murder-for-hire plot: DOJ
Authorities arrested a third Maryland man in connection with a murder-for-hire plot, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for Maryland. Tyrik "Son-Son" Braxton, 28, joins previously convicted Daquante Thomas, 22, and Jourdain "JBlacc" Larose, 29, who were already sentenced in the plot. Braxton is sentenced to 25 years in federal prison in the death of Juan Ross on Oct. 23, 2020, the DOJ said.

Earlier this month the University of Maryland College of Education has named former MCPS superintendent Dr. Monifa McKnight as its inaugural Dean’s Fellow and Superintendent in Residence, effective August 23. The decision was met with mixed reactions, with some supportive of the hiring and others against it to the point of a petition being created asking the university to reverse its decision to hire McKnight. UPDATE: 19-Year-Old Killed in Milton Shooting
MILTON, DE - Authorities say a 19-year-old man has succumbed to his injuries following a shooting Monday morning. Delaware State Police say on July 22, around 4:47 a.m., troopers responded to the 14000 block of Collins Street for a report of a shooting. Trooper say they found a 19-year-old man that had been shot in the upper torso. The victim was reportedly taken by ambulance to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
