Commissioners clear more than 50-year-old title issue

    2024-05-01

During its April 24 meeting, the Calhoun County Commissioners Court took action to resolve an issue regarding land titles around the Indianola and Magnolia Beach area that stretched back to Hurricane Carla, while also approving an expenditure for additional parking at the Calhoun County Courthouse and Museum.

Issues regarding titles and land ownership among family properties located in the around the Indianola and Magnolia Beach area have plagued the area since Hurricane Carla hit in 1961, according to attorney Anne Marie Odefey, who spoke on behalf of landowners. She stated that in decades past, the landowners once were further out towards the beach; however, following Hurricane Carla, and subsequent severe erosion of the coast, as well as a later survey, property lines of the private citizens and county came into conflict.
