MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – West Texas FC will face the Denton Diablos for the Lone Star Conference title on Saturday night at Astound Broadband Stadium. The two teams split the regular season matchup at one apiece. If West Texas can come away with this one, that will be their first title in just their second year of existence.

This team has had a high expectation for themselves all year long and they are continuing to follow that narrative. “At the start of the season you set out your mind to go and win as much as possible, and we hope we can reach the national final,” Captain Olivier Correa said.

During the regular season, they scored 33 goals in 10 matches and finished with a record of 7-1-2. Of those 33 goals, Correa contributed six and scored another one in the first-round playoff game, along with seven assists. Striker Antoine Marques posted seven goals in the regular season and two in the playoffs.

The offense has been busy, but even more impressive, West Texas FC finished the regular season with five straight wins and were able to make it six when they took down the Laredo Heat 5-1.

Captain Olivier Correa and Striker Antoine Marques have played a big role on this team, and they say they are doing it to give back to the fans.

“It’s a pleasure every time to play in front of the fans. It’s just great to feel the support and to feel how much they care for us, and it makes us want to give back to them. We haven’t lost at home yet so I think they are happy with that.”

This team has much confidence going into this match against the Diablos. “We have to be ready, focused, concentrated, and with the confidence we have, I think we can win this game,” Marques said.

Their final message to their fan: “Be there on Saturday, it’s a big final and let’s get that title, Correa said.

“First of all thank you, but we need you on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. It’s going to be the final, so we need everyone to be there cheering for us, like you always have,” Marques said.

West Texas FC has an overall ranking of No. 16 in the NPSL, and the Denton Diablos are ranked No. 37. The winner moves on to the first round of the Regional Final to face OKC 1889 FC, who won the Heartland Conference.
