Avalanche's offense hit historic levels in first round

The Colorado Avalanche started off their second round on the right foot against the Dallas Stars. They defeated their Central Division rivals by a 4-3 final score, with forward Miles Wood scoring the overtime winner.

Overall, the Avalanche's offensive performance was another strong one, and their goal for the rest of their series against Dallas will be to build on it. Coming back from a 3-0 deficit in the playoffs is massive and shows just how hot the Avs are right now.

Speaking of offense, the Avalanche hit remarkable levels in their first round against the Winnipeg Jets. They scored at least five goals in all five of their matchups against the Jets and put together one of the most dominant offensive showings we have seen in a long time.

As Brendan McNicholas reported, the Avalanche's 28 goals against the Jets were the most by an NHL team through their first five playoff games since the 1994-95 Calgary Flames. The Avalanche were also the first team to score at least 28 goals in a five-game series since the 1987-88 Flames did against the Los Angeles Kings. That is truly remarkable stuff.

These outstanding stats show how great the Avalanche's offense was in the first round. What is more encouraging, however, is that the Avalanche kept it going in their first game against the Stars. Will they be able to replicate it for the remainder of the series against an elite goalie in Jake Oettinger? Time will tell.
