    Avalanche should target Sabres sniper

    By Michael DeRosa,

    2024-05-28

The Colorado Avalanche are entering the summer with several forwards who could hit the market. Jonathan Drouin, Yakov Trenin, Andrew Cogliano, Brandon Duhaime, and Joel Kiviranta all have expired deals. In addition, Zach Parise has retired, so the Avalanche could very well be on the hunt for some forward depth this offseason.

With several of the Avalanche's free agents being bottom-six forwards, this is an area where the Avalanche could focus on this summer. As a result, one player who they should keep an eye on is Buffalo Sabres winger Victor Olofsson.

Olofsson has already confirmed that his time in Buffalo has ended. It is understandable, as he was the subject of trade rumors throughout the season and struggled in 2023-24. In 51 games on the year, he had seven goals and 15 points.

While Olofsson had a down year, he is a clear bounce-back candidate heading into the new season. He posted 28 goals and 40 points in 75 games just back in 2022-23. In addition, he has hit the 20-goal and 40-point marks three times in his career.

Olofsson, 28, would have the potential to be a solid addition to the Avalanche's bottom six if he regains his previous scoring touch. He also would be an option for their second power-play unit because of his strong shot.

It is also important to note that Olofsson has been on the Avalanche's radar in the past. According to The Fourth Period , the Avs were one of the teams linked to him at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. Now that he can be had at a far cheaper cap hit, it is an avenue worth exploring.
