Park of the Week: Garland Park offers sand volleyball courts, fishing

Colorado might be landlocked, but thanks to Garland Park in Denver, you can still enjoy some beachy fun.

The vibe: This southeast Denver staple is a great place to bring your volleyball squad and switch it up with some sand games. Actually, bring the whole family, including the kids — the playground is right next to the courts.

If you go: Bring a fishing rod. The adorably named Lollipop Lake is home to various species, mostly small fish like bluegill, with some catfish and possibly even largemouth bass, deputy executive parks director Scott Gilmore tells us.

Fun fact: Garland Park is one of five parks in Denver's system with sand volleyball courts.

    Neighborhood: Washington Virginia Vale

    Address: 6300 E Mississippi Ave.

Amenities: A basketball court, baseball field, softball field, picnic areas, a playground, tennis courts and volleyball courts.
