Denver Broncos fan favorite makes light of a very awkward equipment situation from the 2023 season

We all remember the very legendary, or awkward, shall I say, moment that the Denver Broncos had last season. It was weird, to say the least, but, it happened, and it happens to teams a lot more often than you would think.

Last season we were introduced to an undrafted free agent running back, Jaleel McLaughlin, who broke multiple records in college for being one of the best the game has ever seen. But, that doesn't mean it has been easy in the NFL.

Heck, he didn't even have the right name on his jersey one game.

During the preseason, when the Denver Broncos were set to play the Arizona Cardinals, the UDFA running back who has since turned into a fan favorite, wore a jersey where his name was spelled wrong . We all remember it. Instead of McLaughlin, the jersey was spelled McGlaughlin.

In that game, McLaughlin would go on to score a touchdown and was very productive. Instead of looking at the awkward moment as something that could haunt him, he's not upset at all. Actually, he's making light of it.

“That’s a legendary jersey. I got to hang that up. I’m waiting to get a house," McLaughlin told DNVR.

When you think about it, that may have been the very moment that made casual fans stick to him. It made him different and gave fans a reason to watch him and then root for him. It's how he became a fan favorite because a lot of fans felt bad for him.

Now, as he is still a fan favorite, but with the right nameplate in 2024, McLaughlin is impressing Sean Payton . He is working his way up the depth chart towards becoming that third-down-back the Broncos need. He's already getting better by watching what he did last season and fixing it.

It will be fun to see where his progression has taken him in 2024.
