The Avalanche made another small splash in NHL free agency.

Colorado signed defenseman Erik Brannstrom to a one-year contract, the team announced Tuesday. He recorded 20 points (three goals) last season for the Senators over 76 games. The 24-year-old Sweden native now gets a fresh start with the Avs.

Brannstrom (5 feet, 10 inches, 185 pounds) appeared in 266 games through six previous seasons in Ottawa. He is a bottom-four defenseman candidate as Colorado shuffles blueline depth in 2024-25.

Sean Walker, acquired last season at the trade deadline, signed a five-year contract Monday with the Hurricanes. It’s unclear whether the Avalanche will re-sign aging veteran Jack Johnson in free agency.

    Aamodt, Bradley signed

The Avs continued shaping their depth and AHL roster Tuesday with a pair of moves announced by the team.

Wyatt Aamodt, a Colorado Eagles defenseman, signed a one-year contract for next season in Colorado. The 26-year-old Minnesota native has appeared in 115 regular-season AHL games with 32 points (nine goals). He initially signed with the Avs in 2022 as a college free agent (Minnesota State University).

Chase Bradley, a University of Connecticut forward, signed a two-year, entry-level contract through the 2025-26 season in Colorado. The 22-year-old Missouri native posted 22 points (11 goals) in his junior NCAA season.
