The 10th anniversary of the grand restoration of downtown Denver's Union Station is coming up this month.

So is the end of a smaller, $11 million renovation project that left much of the transit hub's Great Hall covered in barricades throughout the year.

The barricade walls in the Great Hall are coming down next Friday, Union Station spokesperson Julie Dunn told The Denver Gazette in an email.

The latest construction project remodeled all 112 rooms at the station’s Crawford Hotel, built a new hotel lobby and redesigned the Great Hall and The Cooper Lounge, which has been closed for construction, with more modern upgrades.

Union Station, which first opened in 1881, is hosting a weekend of community events to unveil the remodeling and celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the reopening of the transit hub in 2014 after its major $54 million revitalization project that Mayor Mike Johnston is using as inspiration to fund more development in downtown amidst its pandemic recovery.

The first event will be a neighborhood night hosted at the station’s Wynkoop Plaza from 5 to 9 p.m. July 12 with concerts, ping pong and more to unveil the newer renovations.

The next day, the transit hub is hosting a luxurious gala at 6 p.m. July 13 with tickets starting at $500 to support dozens of nonprofits including The Civic Center Conservancy, Historic Denver, History Colorado, Special Olympics and more.

On July 14, it will host a community party from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., allowing the public to come view the remodeled station and its Crawford Hotel.
