Shammond Williams joins DU Pioneers men’s basketball coaching staff | Colorado Sunshine

Where the good news shines

The University of Denver men's basketball program has hired former NBA player Shammond Williams as a new assistant coach on its coaching staff.

Williams completed his third season as an assistant coach on the Old Dominion women's basketball coaching staff under the direction of DeLisa Milton-Jones. The Monarchs went 22-10 and 12-6 in league play last season and earned a trip to the WNIT.

Williams played professional basketball for 13 seasons in both the NBA and across the rest of the world. Williams was drafted by Chicago with the 34th overall pick and had NBA stints with the Atlanta Hawks, Seattle SuperSonics, Boston Celtics, Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic, New Orleans Hornets and the Los Angeles Lakers.

In his collegiate playing career at North Carolina, Williams played under legendary coaches Dean Smith and Bill Guthridge where he played in three Finals Fours (1995, 1997, 1998).
