Two big-name WR free agents still ripe for Denver Broncos' taking

The Denver Broncos have significant questions at nearly every position heading into the 2024 NFL season, making the team's upcoming training camp an intriguing one.

The wide receiver position is one of those spots and though the team has some exciting options, it also has a lot of young players it may have to rely on and then there is Courtland Sutton and his unresolved contract situation.

The Broncos will likely first have to see how the situation with Sutton plays out. Will he report to training camp on time? Will the team decide to trade him ? Or, perhaps Sutton plays the 2024 season on his current deal and the teams talk after the season.

After that, it will be difficult to decide which wide receivers will make this year's 53-man roster as there is some exciting, yet unproven, talent.

Should the Broncos seek other options, two players could be called on to help out.

Denver Broncos should consider Michael Thomas, Hunter Renfrow

    Michael Thomas

This is an argument that I have made before. It's not surprising that Michael Thomas remains a free agent as his health is a major concern and the reason he has gone from a former First Team All-Pro to not being on an NFL roster.

But it's also a low-risk move, one that makes even more sense when you consider Thomas' history with Sean Payton.

Sure, Thomas might be done in terms of being a productive NFL player. But if camp opens and preseason games start and players like Jalen Virgil, Devaughn Vele, and Lil'Jordan Humphrey aren't making enough noise, what is the harm?

Thomas was an incredible option at one time, particularly in the short passing game. Bo Nix, who has often been compared to Drew Brees, could grow immensely with a player like Thomas to throw to.

    Hunter Renfrow

Hunter Renfrow is not a wide receiver you are going to sign to send on deep routes to take the top off the defense. He doesn't have electric speed or impressive size, but it's the little things that he does that matter.

Renfrow is another player who can help a team excel in the short passing game, helping move the chains as a reliable target in the middle of the field. If the Broncos are going to build around Nix, a player like this makes so much sense.
