Denver Broncos position coach, not Sean Payton, will be the key for Bo Nix

From the moment the Denver Broncos drafted Bo Nix in the first round, there has been talk of Sean Payton having his quarterback. And while that may be true, another coach will work even more closely with Nix on getting him up to speed as an NFL rookie.

That will be Broncos quarterback coach Davis Webb, a guy who many within the NFL world felt the Broncos were quite fortunate to get last season. Webb was a highly sought-after commodity within the coaching ranks and even turned down a job with the Buffalo Bills to continue playing.

Right after the 2022 season with the New York Giants, he was hired by the Broncos. Now, he will be one of the biggest influences in the future of Bo Nix.

The book on Broncos QB coach Davis Webb

Webb had a solid college playing career between Texas Tech and California which led to him being selected in the third round of the 2017 draft.

Webb did not do much in the league as a player but the seeds were planted for him to get into coaching early. When he was hired by the Broncos he came highly recommended by the likes of Brian Daboll and Eli Manning and he has even been mentioned as deserving some credit for the development of Josh Allen from their time together in Buffalo.

It seemed he was a tremendous hire for the Broncos and now he will have a chance to prove that.

The Broncos are almost certainly going to want Nix ready to go for Week 1. It would be the first time since 1983 that the Broncos have opened the season with a rookie under center.

If Nix succeeds in Denver right out of the gate, there is a good chance that Webb would be up for a promotion to offensive coordinator somewhere and then eventually, a head coaching job.

Some think he can go that far. The 2024 season with Nix as a rookie gives him a chance to put a big note on his resume.
