Denver Nuggets Rookie Receives Brutal Injury Update

The 2024 NBA offseason has been a somewhat difficult one for the Denver Nuggets. For the second straight summer, a key part of their rotation departed in free agency for a larger contract they could not afford to match.

In 2023, it was Bruce Brown‘s signing with the Indiana Pacers. This summer, it was Kentavious Caldwell-Pope joining the Orlando Magic.

Those departures, along with other cost-cutting moves, is what made recent drafts so important. The Denver Nuggets are going to be relying on recent draft picks such as Christian Bruan, Peyton Watson, Julian Strawther and Jalen Pickett to take on larger roles in the rotation.

In the 2024 NBA Draft, the team was excited about the prospects of first-round pick, DaRon Holmes out of Dayton. Unfortunately, his rookie season has been ended before it even got started.

During the team’s Summer League game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday night, Holmes went down with an injury. It has been revealed that he tore his Achilles and will likely miss the entire 2024-25 campaign.

In 26 minutes, Holmes was making his presence felt. He scored 11 points with seven rebounds, but the next year or so will now be focused on rehab instead of the development of his game.

The No. 22 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Holmes is a big loss for the Denver Nuggets. He was projected to be a part of their second unit, providing depth in the frontcourt behind Nikola Jokic, Michael Porter Jr. and Aaron Gordon.

Holmes had a decorated collegiate career at Dayton. Being named a consensus All-American capped off a very impressive junior season for the Arizona native.

In 33 games, he averaged 20.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 0.9 steals and 2.1 blocks in 32.5 minutes per game. He was an efficient scorer, making 54.4 percent of her shots overall, 38.6 percent from 3-point range and 71.3 percent from the foul line.

His improvements from long-range and on free throws provided optimism that he could develop his range in the NBA. Unfortunately, we won’t be seeing that any time soon as his professional debut will likely be delayed until the 2025-26 season.
