Denver Broncos position preview: Inside linebacker depth chart ahead of training camp

    By Travis Wakeman,

The Denver Broncos will enter training camp thin at the inside linebacker position. That is either something the team has become resigned to or there is something about at least one player on the roster that they know no one else does.

The team lost Josey Jewell in free agency, which was expected. What changed things drastically was the offseason injury to second-year linebacker Drew Sanders.

The Broncos did add some linebackers in free agency but depending on how things go in camp and preseason games, this is a position the team should continue to look at further for outside options.

    Starters

    Alex Singleton, Cody Barton

The only thing that seems sure within this group is that Alex Singleton will be one of the team's starters, having ranked among the league leaders in total tackles in his two seasons with the team.

Cody Barton was signed in free agency and could be anywhere from a starter to not even making the roster. He'll get the nod to start camp ahead of Jonas Griffith because of all the time that Griffith has missed, but they will get an equal opportunity.

    Second string

    Jonas Griffith, Justin Strnad

Griffith will have a chance to start. Justin Strnad was brought back because the team just doesn't have enough depth at the position, but he's proven to be little more than a special teams guy thus far in his career.

    Third string

    Andre Smith, Levelle Bailey

Andre Smith could also be used as an outside linebacker, but because there is so little at inside linebacker, we'll put him here for this exercise. Due to the lack of depth at the position, undrafted free agent Levelle Bailey is one of the most intriguing names in this year's undrafted crop and he has a legitimate chance to make the squad.
