    Denver breaks temperature record set in 1878

    Denver hit 101 degrees at 12:56 p.m. on Sunday, breaking a 146-year-old record-high temperature set on July 14.

    The old daily record was 100 degrees set in 1878, according to an X post from the National Weather Service (NWS) Boulder. The post also states that although clouds are moving over the area, the temperature could still rise another degree or two.

    Denver also broke a daily record on Friday when the temperature reached 102 degrees. According to the NWS , the last time Denver reached 102 degrees was July 8, 2021.

    Colorado Springs hit a daily record high temperature of 98 degrees today as well, according to the NWS Pueblo . The previous record for July 14 was 96 degrees and was set in 1972 and 2005.
