DENVER ( KDVR ) — A triple-digit heat wave passed through Colorado this weekend, leaving Denver with two new heat records and temperatures exceeding 105 degrees in some areas in the state.

Three Pinpoint Weather Alert Days and multiple heat advisories were issued due to record-breaking temperatures.

    Denver breaks 146-year-old heat record

Denver hit 102 degrees on Friday afternoon, officially breaking a 52-year-old heat record in the Mile High City. The last time it was that hot on July 12 was in 1971 when Denver reached 101 degrees.

On Sunday afternoon, Denver hit 101 degrees , breaking a 146-year record for the hottest temperature recorded on July 14. The original record was from 1878 when the city hit 100 degrees.

While the Mile High City was close to breaking Denver’s overall heat record, which sits at 105 degrees last recorded in 2018 , some areas around Colorado recorded even higher temperatures.

These are historically the hottest days in Denver

Denver’s hottest days of the year historically land in mid-July, meaning a cooldown is on the way. Pinpoint Weather Meteorologist Greg Perez said temperatures will likely not be as hot for the rest of the summer, and this was most likely the last time Denver will hit 100 degrees this season.
